Highlights fromThe Anasazi Pass

Colorado - New Mexico

Session I: June 26 - July 9

Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP - no other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and startling depths which can be seen on breathtaking hikes in the Inner Canyon to the river.

Great Sand Dunes NP - explore and play on the tallest sand dunes in North America. Search for fulgurites (crystallized sand made by lightening strikes).

Ouray - a National Historic District sits high in the San Juan Mountains. Go 4-wheeling in the mountains, hike to alpine meadows, see abandoned gold mining towns and swim in the hot springs 250’ x 150’ oval pool.

Aztec Ruins NM - explore West Ruin, a center of ancestral Pueblo society that once housed over 500 masonry rooms.

Mesa Verde NP gives you a glimpse into the Ancestral Pueblo people who lived here from 600 A.D. Visit one of over 600 cliff dwellings in the park on a Ranger-led tour and experience the sites first-hand.

Colorado NM - see Devils Kitchen, and walk Serpents Trail “the crookedest road in the world”, one of the grand landscapes of the American West.

Florissant Fossil Beds NM in central Colorado lies one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of  insects and plant fossils reveal the story of a very different, prehistoric Colorado.

Arkansas River - exceptional whitewater rafting in Colorado, our 3rd longest river. Colorado's Rocky Mountains are the birthplace of more

major rivers than any other mountain range in the U.S.

Bandalier NM - hike the Long Trail in Frijoles Canyon or walk along a mesa, viewing cavates, petro glyphs and the Ancestral Pueblo village of Tsankawi and climb ladders to view the Ancestral Pueblo "Long House" where for over 10,000 years nomadic hunter-gatherers followed migrating wildlife across the mesas and canyons.

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks NM - hike to a slot canyon and cave loop to see cone-shaped tent rock formations, the products of volcanic eruptions that occurred 6 to 7 million years ago.
